Atlanta, GA – In a moment both symbolic and deeply personal, the Shepherd Center family, staff, and supporters gathered to celebrate the dedication of the James H. Shepherd Jr. Bridge. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official connection between the Marcus-Woodruff building and the new Marcus Center for Advanced Rehabilitation—a bridge that is both a physical structure and a powerful representation of the Shepherd Center’s enduring mission.
A Bridge Between ‘I Can’t’ and ‘I Can’
The bridge’s inscription, a quote from Shepherd Center co-founder James H. Shepherd Jr., reads:
“Shepherd Center is the bridge between ‘I Can’t’ and ‘I Can.’”
These words, now permanently displayed on the structure, reflect the essence of what Shepherd Center represents—not just in rehabilitation but in the lives of thousands of patients who have passed through its doors.
A Testament to Community Support
The construction of the bridge was a collective effort, made possible through the generosity of donors, physicians, and Shepherd Center employees.
Looking Ahead
The James H. Shepherd Jr. Bridge is more than an architectural feature—it is a daily symbol of hope, resilience, and possibility.
With the opening of the Marcus Center for Advanced Rehabilitation, Shepherd Center continues to expand its ability to serve patients and pioneer cutting-edge treatments. And now, with this new bridge in place, the connection between past, present, and future has never been stronger.
